Colorado Auto Dealer Bond Requirements
Colorado's current dealer application calls for a $50,000 bond, with a stated $5,000 amount for qualifying small trailer dealers.
Colorado's current motor vehicle and powersports dealer application requires a surety bond as part of the licensing package. The state's application says the bond must show the full legal name, include the DBA on the principal line when applicable, and be signed by an authorized owner or representative.
Current bond amount
The Auto Industry Division lists a $50,000 bond for dealer and wholesaler applicants. It lists a $5,000 amount for small trailer dealers whose trailers weigh less than 2,000 pounds. Use the current application for your exact license type because separate salesperson and business categories can have different requirements.
Avoid a name mismatch
The principal name on the bond should match the legal name used in the application. Add the DBA where the state instructs. Review the issued bond before filing it with the rest of the licensing package.
The bond is one part of the application
The state also requires other business, location, identification, and licensing documents. Completing a bond does not by itself authorize vehicle sales.
