Fort Collins Surety Bond Requirements

Fort Collins requirements depend on the work, license, permit, or contract involved.

Fort Collins does not use one universal surety bond for every business. Requirements depend on the activity and the city department involved. Contractor licensing, right-of-way work, and public contracts can follow different forms and financial-security rules.

Right-of-way contractor bonds

The City of Fort Collins right-of-way contractor materials reviewed on August 28, 2026 list a $100,000 license and permit bond for most right-of-way contractor applications and $250,000 for applicants boring for utilities in the public right-of-way.

Building contractor licensing

Building Services publishes separate application procedures and qualification requirements for general and specialized trade contractors. Do not assume the right-of-way bond applies to ordinary building-license work, or that a building license covers right-of-way activity.

Before you apply

Identify the city department, license or permit type, exact legal name, current bond form, amount, and insurance requirements. If the work is for a public contract, also follow the solicitation and contract documents.

Before you purchase a bond

  • Get the current written requirement or bond form.
  • Confirm the obligee, principal name, amount, term, and filing method.
  • Keep proof that the bond was accepted.
